At OrthotiCare Clinics, we welcome and appreciate patient referrals from physicians, specialist physicians and rehabilitation professionals to Tim Miller, Certified Orthotist. By appointment, Tim Miller provides for patients at our Nanaimo Main Clinic and at our scheduled Satellite Clinics in Duncan, Courtenay, Port Alberni and Campbell River.

A physician’s prescription, stating both the diagnosis and the medical order for specific custom or off-the-shelf orthoses is often required. Most patients accessing extended health benefits or third party funding agency benefits for their orthotic treatment will require a specific prescription from their physician, and in some cases from an orthopaedic specialist physician.

An initial referral can be made for assessment purposes, and Tim Miller, Certified Orthotist, can provide recommendations based on a thorough clinical assessment of the patient. If a prescription is required, our Certified Orthotist can provide information to a patient’s physician for confirmation of the diagnosis, recommended orthotic treatment and subsequent prescription.

Patients may also self-refer initially. We welcome new patients and offer orthotic assessment appointments.

Why Refer to a Certified Orthotist?

In order to become a Certified Orthotist, and to receive designation from the Canadian Board for Certification of Orthotics and Prosthetics (CBCPO), certified members of Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) receive a thorough post-graduate education in orthotic clinical and technical theory and methods. A two-year, supervised clinical internship is a further requirement. This is followed by a national certification exam that demands the highest professional standards be met. Mandatory professional development and continuing requirements keep Certified Orthotists current with the latest research and technology available.

When you refer to Tim Miller, Certified Orthotist, you can be sure that he is highly qualified to provide your patients with the best treatment available in orthotic/orthopaedic appliance design and orthotic patient care.
